Dry Van dispatch — built for owner-operators.

Dry van is the backbone of US trucking, and it's where we book the most loads — every single day. We dispatch 53' dry vans across all 48 states, focusing on round-trip lanes that minimize deadhead and high-RPM regional runs that get you home weekends. Our flat 8% rate is the lowest tier we offer because van freight moves on volume, and we win on consistency.

Why drivers run dry van with us

  • Highest broker volume in trucking — more daily van load options means more rate competition, which becomes your higher RPM.
  • Round-trip math on every offer. We won't dispatch you outbound without a plan for the return — deadhead kills dry van profit faster than fuel ever could.
  • 8% flat covers the entire dispatching service — load discovery, rate negotiation, broker vetting, paperwork. It's also less than what most owner-operators pay themselves in load-board time when you count the hours honestly.

How dry van rates actually move — and how we time your week.

Van capacity is the most volatile rate in trucking. By Wednesday afternoon you can see the spot market move 8–12% in either direction. The drivers who out-earn their peers aren't running harder — they're running with someone who watches the market move every hour and dispatches accordingly.

The pattern most owner-operators miss: van rates peak Monday–Tuesday (shippers staffing the week), bottom out Thursday–Friday (capacity coming home for the weekend), and reset Sunday night. We dispatch toward the front of the week from the heaviest outbound van markets — Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania — and pivot lanes mid-week toward where rates are climbing.

If you're new to van dispatch: forget headhaul rate-per-mile in isolation. Round-trip RPM is the only number that matters. A $2.40 RPM headhaul with a $1.20 RPM backhaul beats a $2.80 RPM headhaul with deadhead, every single time. We do that round-trip math before we ever send you the offer.

"I switched to TruckersTool Dispatch last spring. Same lanes, my weekly gross went from $7,400 to $9,100. The difference paid my truck note in two months — even after the higher dispatch cut, the rate-after-cut math wasn't close."

// FAQ — Dry Van

Common questions from dry van drivers.

If we missed yours, call dispatch — we'll talk straight.

What's the average weekly gross for a van driver with you?
Our van drivers average $7,400–$9,200 per week running 2,400–3,200 miles. Top performers cross $10k regularly on premium lanes.
Do you book LTL or just FTL?
FTL only. We don't do LTL — the math doesn't work for owner-operators in our experience.
Drop-and-hook or live load?
Both. We let you set your preference per shipper at onboarding. Many of our van drivers prefer drop-and-hook with our bigger broker accounts.
Do I need my own trailer?
For dry van, yes — most of our broker partners require carrier-supplied trailers. If you run a tractor without a trailer, our power-only dispatch program is the right fit.
