Truck dispatch in Pennsylvaniabuilt for owner-operators.

Pennsylvania is the Northeast's distribution backbone. Lehigh Valley sits 90 minutes from both NYC and Philadelphia — every major retailer's eastern DC is here. Add Pittsburgh's steel mills and the Marcellus Shale gas play, and PA-based drivers have three distinct freight markets to choose from. We dispatch all three.

Where freight moves in Pennsylvania.

Each city is its own freight micro-market. We dispatch in all of them and route you toward whichever one fits your equipment and home base best.

Lehigh Valley (Allentown / Bethlehem)

I-78/I-476 intersection — the Northeast's distribution backbone. Amazon, FedEx, UPS, Walmart, Target all anchor here within 90 minutes of NYC and Philadelphia. Outbound to Boston + NYC retail is among the most reliable van lanes in the country.

Pittsburgh

Steel mills (US Steel, Cleveland-Cliffs) + Marcellus Shale gas services. Outbound steel to Detroit + Chicago auto plants. Marcellus sand + pipe flatbed work in NE/SW PA pays well when drilling activity is up.

Harrisburg / Carlisle

Central PA distribution corridor along I-81. Multiple Walmart + Target DCs. Solid outbound to Mid-Atlantic + Southeast. Less congested than the Lehigh Valley but similar volume.

Philadelphia

Port of Philadelphia (PhilaPort) handles auto imports + container freight. Drayage to South Jersey + PA distribution. Less volume than NJ but better turn times.

Reading / Hershey

Food processing belt — Hershey, Yuengling, smaller producers. Reefer + dry van outbound to retailers + restaurant chains nationwide.

// PA Turnpike + Marcellus

Two PA-specific things that catch new drivers off guard.

The PA Turnpike Tier-1 winter restrictions. When PA Turnpike triggers Tier-1, empty box trucks, bobtails, and tow-trailers are banned. We monitor PennDOT advisories and reroute around restricted segments — but if you're unfamiliar with the rules you can get stranded at a closed entrance for hours. Plan around forecasts.

Marcellus Shale flatbed. Northeastern PA (Bradford, Tioga, Susquehanna counties) and southwestern PA (Washington, Greene) are active gas-drilling regions. Sand, pipe, drilling equipment, and produced-water hauling pay well when drilling activity is up. Lower-than-Permian rates, but consistent and the work is closer to the eastern population centers, which means easier home time.

For drivers who want neither: Lehigh Valley DC outbound is the steady, lower-drama option. Reading + Hershey reefer is a quieter food market with consistent retail and restaurant-chain demand.

// FAQ — Pennsylvania

Common questions from PA-based drivers.

How do PA Turnpike tolls work?
PA Turnpike uses E-ZPass + toll-by-plate. We don't mark up tolls — they're pass-through line items on your weekly settlement.
Are PA Turnpike winter restrictions a real problem?
When Tier-1 is triggered (typically during major storms), yes — empty box trucks and bobtails get rejected at entry. We watch PennDOT advisories and reroute pre-emptively when forecasts call for severe weather.
Marcellus Shale work — is it a real revenue option?
Yes, for owner-ops with flatbed or hotshot equipment based in NE or SW PA. Sand + pipe + equipment moves pay well when drilling activity is up. Activity correlates with natural-gas prices.
Is Lehigh Valley DC work appointment-heavy?
Drop-and-hook is common with the major DC anchors (Amazon, Walmart, Target) — appointments are predictable. Smaller shipper live-loads are tighter; we negotiate detention pay on those.
